Introduction
Vietnam's gaming industry is experiencing robust growth while facing significant challenges in its global expansion. According to a report by DataAI & AppMagic, Vietnam has ascended to the top 5 globally in game downloads, achieving an impressive 4.2 billion downloads from 2019 to Q1 2023. Projections indicate that by 2026, revenue from games and apps in Vietnam will reach $2.7 billion, underscoring the industry's enormous potential.
However, the Vietnamese gaming sector has yet to fully leverage its capabilities. Domestic businesses control only 22% of the local mobile game market, with foreign companies dominating the remainder. Vietnamese gaming companies currently operate on slim profit margins of 3-5%, and the industry represents less than 0.5% of the global market value.
With the global gaming market expected to hit $212.4 billion by 2026, expanding internationally is not just an opportunity but a critical necessity for Vietnamese game companies. Success stories like VNG, with 261 million game downloads since 2019, and Amanotes, boasting 2.9 billion downloads across over 190 countries, demonstrate the significant potential of Vietnamese games on the world stage.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong (Silver Nguyen), CPO of Amanotes, emphasizes that to achieve success, Vietnamese game companies should focus on key factors: App Store Optimization (ASO), optimizing even the smallest details; paying special attention to international player insights; and investing in measurement systems to evaluate effectiveness and track progress towards goals.
